Pasco County occupies a large stretch of Florida’s west-central Gulf Coast, and its courts operate under the umbrella of Florida’s Sixth Judicial Circuit, which also serves neighboring Pinellas County. The circuit is composed of nine court divisions — circuit civil, circuit criminal, family, probate and guardianship, county civil, county criminal, traffic, and small claims — and each generates records that become part of the permanent judicial archive. The Pasco County Clerk and Comptroller serves as the official custodian of all court records produced in the county, maintaining both physical files and electronic databases from two judicial center locations in Dade City and New Port Richey.

People searching for court case information in Florida have access to a range of tools, including clerk office counters, records retention facilities, and web-based databases operated by the courts. The FloridaStateCourts.us website may also assist in locating publicly available court case data across the state’s judicial circuits. In Pasco County, the Clerk and Comptroller offers a dedicated online court records search system alongside walk-in services and mail-based request options.

How to Look Up a Court Case in Pasco County?

The Pasco County Clerk and Comptroller provides online, in-person, and mail-based methods for searching and obtaining court records. The approach you use will depend on the case type, whether you need certified copies, and whether the records you need are available electronically.

Online Court Records Search

The Clerk operates an Online Court Records Search portal where members of the public can view case information at no charge. The system allows searches using:

  • A case party’s name (individual, business, or attorney)
  • Case details such as the year filed, sequence number, party identifier, and branch location
  • Filing date filters (available with name-based searches)

The portal displays case type, status, docket entries, filing dates, and other court events. It does not, however, provide access to downloadable case document images for all case types — particularly criminal case documents and restricted categories such as juvenile and mental health files. Access to electronic court records is governed by the Florida Supreme Court’s Administrative Order AOSC 15-18.

In addition to the general search tool, the Clerk provides several specialized search options:

Attorneys of record can request enhanced access by submitting an Attorney of Record Registration Agreement to the Clerk’s Information Technology Department at 14236 6th Street, Dade City, FL 33523-3414.

In-Person Requests

The Clerk maintains two judicial center offices and two records retention facilities. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ET, Monday through Friday, excluding holidays.

Are Court Records Public in Pasco County?

Court records in Pasco County are presumptively public under Florida law. The Florida Sunshine Law (Chapter 119, Florida Statutes) requires government agencies — including the courts — to make their records available for public inspection. Viewing records in person at the Clerk’s office incurs no fee; charges apply only when copies are produced.

The Florida Supreme Court separately governs access to judicial branch records through its rulemaking authority under Article V, Section 2 of the Florida Constitution. Rule 2.420 of the Florida Rules of General Practice and Judicial Administration specifically identifies categories of court records that are confidential and exempt from public disclosure, including:

  • Unexecuted search and arrest warrants
  • Records sealed or expunged by court order
  • Certain juvenile proceeding records
  • Social Security numbers, bank account numbers, and credit or debit card numbers
  • Information that could reveal the identity of petitioners or respondents in domestic violence, sexual violence, dating violence, and repeat violence cases
  • Records designated confidential by federal law, state statute, or court rule

Florida Statutes 119.071 and 119.0714 provide further exemptions from public records disclosure. If you find a document online that you believe requires protection of personal or confidential information, the Clerk’s office provides guidance on its Protecting Personal or Confidential Information page.

Pasco County Criminal Court Records

Criminal cases in Pasco County are prosecuted in both the circuit and county courts. The circuit criminal division handles felonies and any misdemeanors arising from the same set of facts as a felony charge. The county criminal division has jurisdiction over standalone misdemeanor allegations and county or municipal ordinance violations.

Searching Criminal Court Case Records

The Clerk’s Online Court Records Search portal allows the public to view basic criminal case information, including case type, status, docket entries, and court events. Searches can be performed by defendant name or case number. Note that criminal case document images generally cannot be viewed or downloaded through the online portal — only summary case data is displayed.

For direct inquiries about criminal court records, use the following Clerk contacts:

Certified copies of criminal court records can be ordered in person at either judicial center, by phone, or by mail to the appropriate records retention facility.

Arrest Records and Law Enforcement Resources

Arrest records, incident reports, and criminal history information are maintained by the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office, not the Clerk of Court. The Sheriff’s Public Records Department accepts requests through multiple channels:

Pasco Sheriff’s Office — Public Records Department
Address: 20105 Central Boulevard, Land O’ Lakes, FL 34637
Phone: (813) 235-6118
Fax: (813) 235-6119

Requests can also be submitted through the Sheriff’s GovQA public records portal, which allows tracking of request status and secure payment of any applicable fees. Creating an account is optional — requests can be submitted anonymously.

For local arrest history checks, submit the subject’s name, date of birth, and Social Security number using the Sheriff’s Local Arrest History Form. Note that the Sheriff’s records cover only arrests made by the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office. Arrests by other agencies should be requested from the arresting agency directly.

Records related to active or pending investigations may only be partially released until the investigation concludes. Juvenile records are subject to additional restrictions under Florida Statutes 943.053 and 985.04 and may only be released to designated entities.

Small Claims

Small claims cases — civil disputes involving $8,000 or less (excluding court costs, interest, and attorney fees) — are governed by Florida’s Small Claims Rules and may be filed by individuals, businesses, partnerships, or corporations. For information about filing, contact the Clerk at (352) 521-4542 (Dade City) or (727) 847-8031 (New Port Richey).

Pasco County Family Court Records

The Sixth Judicial Circuit’s Family Division presides over domestic matters that include dissolution of marriage (divorce), child custody and visitation, child support, alimony, paternity, adoption, name changes, grandparent proceedings, and injunctions related to domestic, repeat, dating, and sexual violence. The circuit also operates a Unified Family Court model where a single judge oversees all matters involving one family, including interconnected delinquency and dependency cases.

Searching Family Court Records

Family court case information can be searched through the Clerk’s Online Court Records Search portal. Using the Person Search option, select the “Domestic Relations/Family” checkbox under court type and enter the party name. The Case Search option allows entry of a case number and filing date details. Certain family law records — such as adoption proceedings and juvenile cases — are restricted and may only be accessible to case parties, their attorneys, or designated entities.

Dissolution of Marriage

Dissolution of marriage cases (divorce and annulment) are filed in the circuit court’s family division. When a dissolution case is filed, it becomes a public record. Pasco County recognizes two types of dissolution:

  1. Regular dissolution — required when the couple has minor children, the wife is pregnant, or one spouse contests the divorce. Both parties must complete a court-required parenting course from an approved provider before a final hearing. Contested cases require mediation before a final hearing can be scheduled.
  2. Simplified dissolution — available when there are no minor children, the wife is not pregnant, both spouses agree on property and debt division, neither spouse seeks alimony, and both are willing to attend the same final hearing.

Printable dissolution forms are available from the Clerk’s dissolution forms page and at the Legal Resource Center locations. The Clerk cannot provide legal advice or assist with form completion, per Florida Statute 28.215.

Marriage Records

Marriage license information and applications can be obtained by contacting the Clerk and Comptroller. Passport and marriage license applications are accepted until 4:00 p.m. ET.

Divorce Records Through the Bureau of Vital Statistics

After a dissolution of marriage is granted, the Clerk files the report with the Florida Department of Health’s Bureau of Vital Statistics after 60 days. Records can be ordered from the Bureau by mail to P.O. Box 210, Jacksonville, FL 32231-0042, or in person at 1217 North Pearl Street, Jacksonville, FL 32202. Requesters must complete Form DH260. Marriage certificates can be ordered similarly using Form DH261. Bureau fees include:

  • $5 per certified copy per calendar year searched
  • $4 for additional copies on the same order
  • $2 per calendar year when the specific year is unknown ($50 maximum)
  • $1 delivery fee

Certified birth certificates cost $12, with $8 for each additional copy in the same order. Certified death certificates cost $10 each. Under Florida Statute 382.025, birth records less than 125 years old and death records less than 50 years old (with cause of death and Social Security information) are restricted to eligible applicants. Death records from 2009 onward are available locally; earlier death records must be obtained from the Jacksonville State Office of Vital Statistics.

Pasco County Probate Court Records

The Sixth Judicial Circuit’s Probate and Guardianship Division handles the probate of estates, trusts, guardianships, and mental health matters — including Baker Act (involuntary examination), Marchman Act (involuntary treatment for substance abuse), and other involuntary commitment proceedings. The division also addresses allegations of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of the elderly, advance health care directives, and tuberculosis quarantine orders.

Searching Probate Records

Probate case information can be found through the Clerk’s Online Court Records Search portal using a party name or case number. The Clerk also provides a dedicated Mental Health Case Search tool, which requires a case number to search.

Filing and Requesting Probate Records

The following probate case types must be filed electronically in Pasco County: new estate and guardianship cases, incapacity cases, and interim and closing reports. Printable forms for probate and estate matters are available on the Clerk’s Probate Forms page and for purchase at both Legal Resource Center locations.

Certified copies of probate case records can be ordered through E-Certify, in person at either judicial center, or by mail to the records retention facilities. Standard fees apply ($1 per page, $2 per certification).

Wills

In Florida, wills may only be deposited with the Clerk of Court after the testator has died — wills are not placed on deposit during a person’s lifetime. Anyone can search for deposited wills using the Clerk’s Wills on Deposit Search tool. Certain original wills held by the Clerk are treated as confidential documents. Per Chapter 732.901(1), Florida Statutes, a will must be accompanied by specific information for proper deposit. Every personal representative, unless they remain the sole interested person, must be represented by an attorney admitted to practice in Florida under Florida Probate Rule 5.030.

Guardianship

Guardianship proceedings involve judicial determinations regarding the need for and scope of a guardian for incapacitated individuals. The court appoints an attorney for each person alleged to be incapacitated, though the individual may substitute their own counsel. Family guardians must complete an approved course pursuant to Florida Statute 744.3145. For guardianship inquiries, contact the Clerk at (352) 521-4542 (Dade City) or (727) 847-8031 (New Port Richey). Additional guardianship forms and information are available through the Sixth Judicial Circuit’s probate and guardianship page.
