Nassau County occupies the northeastern corner of Florida, stretching from the Georgia border south along Amelia Island and the surrounding mainland, with the community of Yulee serving as the primary government hub and Fernandina Beach as the historic seat. The county falls within Florida’s Fourth Judicial Circuit, which also includes Duval and Clay counties. Two levels of trial court operate locally — the Circuit Court and the County Court — and the Nassau County Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller functions as the official custodian of all court records generated within the county’s judicial system.

Individuals looking for court case information in Florida can draw on a combination of official clerk resources, courthouse public-access terminals, and statewide electronic tools. The Nassau County Clerk’s online records search page offers remote access to many case files maintained by the office, and the statewide Online Court Records Search (OCRS) portal allows anonymous, no-cost lookups of Nassau County docket entries. For broader statewide directories and court information, FloridaStateCourts.us may also help users identify available resources. Beyond online tools, requesters can visit the Clerk’s counter in person, submit written or email inquiries, or contact the relevant court division by phone.

How to Look Up a Court Case in Nassau County?

There are several practical ways to find a case or obtain documents from a Nassau County court file, depending on whether you need basic docket data or certified copies of filings.

Online Search — OCRS Portal

The fastest option for most people is the Online Court Records Search maintained by the Clerk’s Office. Public users can access it anonymously without creating an account:

  1. Navigate to the OCRS portal and select “Public” access.
  2. Search by party name, case number, or citation number.
  3. Review docket entries, hearing dates, and case status.

Registered users — such as attorneys, law enforcement, or parties of record — may apply for login credentials to view additional non-public data. To register, complete the Online Records User Registration Agreement and email it to subscribers@nassauclerk.com; processing takes one to five business days.

The Official Records portal provides a separate name-based search for recorded instruments including deeds, mortgages, liens, marriage certificates, and other documents filed in the county’s official records.

Are Court Records Public in Nassau County?

Florida’s Sunshine Law, codified at Fla. Stat. Chapter 119, establishes a broad right of access to records created by government agencies, including court records. Any person may inspect or copy most Nassau County court files by contacting the Clerk’s Office; no demonstration of special interest or legal standing is required.

Florida Rule of Judicial Administration 2.420 supplements the Sunshine Law by setting out the framework for public access to judicial branch records specifically. The rule presumes openness but identifies categories of records that are confidential or exempt from disclosure, either automatically by statute or upon motion to the court:

  • Sealed or expunged criminal records
  • Juvenile delinquency records
  • Records containing Social Security numbers, financial account numbers, or dates of birth (which must be redacted under Rule 2.425 before filing)
  • Identifying information of victims of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual battery, or stalking
  • Adoption files
  • Grand jury proceedings
  • Mental health case records
  • Substance-abuse treatment records
  • Information about confidential informants or witnesses in criminal cases
  • Pre-sentence investigation reports
  • Any record sealed by court order

When a filer believes that a document contains confidential information, they must either file a Notice of Confidential Information or submit a Motion to Determine Confidentiality alongside the document. The Clerk’s Office is not permitted to make its own determination about confidentiality; that responsibility lies with the filer and, ultimately, the court. The recent Administrative Order AOSC 2023-1401 from the Florida Supreme Court, effective July 1, 2025, revised electronic filing rules to further streamline how the Clerk handles filings sent to the corrections queue.
