Jackson County, Florida, is served by the Fourteenth Judicial Circuit and is anchored by the county seat of Marianna. The county’s courts handle a wide range of legal proceedings — from felony criminal trials and civil disputes to estate administration and family law matters. Records from these proceedings serve as an essential resource for attorneys, journalists, employers conducting background checks, and members of the public researching their own legal history or that of a family member.

Locating court case information in Florida is possible through several channels: visiting a clerk’s office directly, using public access terminals at the courthouse, submitting written requests, or searching online. FloridaStateCourts.us may help users find publicly available court case information and identify the appropriate resources for their research. The Jackson County Clerk of Courts also provides its own dedicated online search tools and services for those who prefer digital access.

Online Case Search

The clerk’s office provides two digital pathways for searching court records:

Note that cases with an active warrant or capias will not appear in the public online search, consistent with Florida Statute 119.071(2)©(1), which exempts active criminal intelligence information from public disclosure.

In-Person Access

Members of the public may inspect and copy non-exempt records at the courthouse during normal business hours. To speed up an in-person request, bring the case number, names of all parties, and an approximate filing date.

Electronic Certified Copies

The clerk now offers electronic certified copies through the Clerk E-Certify platform. These can be ordered by phone at (850) 482-9552, in person, or online. Certified e-copies are delivered by email from No-reply@jacksonclerk.com, are cryptographically secured, and are valid for any legal purpose. Printed copies of these documents can be verified using a QR code linked to the clerk’s repository.

Are Court Records Public in Jackson County?

Florida’s Sunshine Law (Chapter 119, Florida Statutes) establishes a strong presumption of public access to government records, including court records. Most Jackson County court records are available to any member of the public without requiring a demonstration of legal interest. The Florida Rules of Judicial Administration, Rule 2.420, further governs public access to judicial branch records and defines which categories may be withheld.

Several categories of records are confidential or restricted under Florida law:

  • Juvenile records — Sealed to protect minors under Florida Statutes § 985.04.
  • Adoption records — Permanently sealed under Florida Statutes § 63.162.
  • Mental health and medical records — Restricted to authorized individuals per Florida Statutes § 394.4615.
  • Sensitive personal identifiers — Social Security numbers, full bank account numbers, and credit/debit card numbers are protected under Florida Statutes § 119.071(5). Any person may request redaction of these identifiers by submitting a written request to the clerk specifying the case number, document title, and page number — no fee is charged for this redaction service.
  • Active criminal investigations — Information related to ongoing investigations with a reasonable expectation of arrest is exempt from public disclosure under FL ST. 119.011(3)(d)2.

For county government records held outside the court system, the Jackson County Public Records Request Portal accepts requests online. Written requests may also be mailed or submitted in person to the Board of County Commissioners at 2864 Madison Street, Marianna, FL 32448, or by phone at (850) 482-9633.

Divorce Records

Dissolution of marriage cases are public record unless sealed by court order. To obtain a certified copy of a final judgment of dissolution or other divorce record, visit the Clerk of Courts at 4445 Lafayette Street or order electronically through the E-Certify platform. Child Support

The Clerk’s office receives and disburses child support payments in most cases. Additional information is available on the Child Support page of the clerk’s website.

  • Previously married applicants must provide the date their last marriage ended (death date or final judgment of dissolution date).
